The ECB oversees all significant and less significant banks in the participating countries through direct and indirect supervision.

The list of supervised entities is updated by the ECB regularly. It reflects banks’ status as at the given cut-off date. This date does not necessarily coincide with the date of the actual decision on a bank’s significance.

Types of supervised entities

In the SSM Framework Regulation, the types of supervised banks are referred to as:

  • credit institutions
  • financial holding companies
  • mixed financial holding companies
  • branches of credit institutions established in non-participating Member States
