What is a qualifying holding?

One of our tasks is to assess proposed acquisitions of “qualifying holdings” in a bank. The ECB takes such decisions as part of the common procedures that apply to all banks under European banking supervision.

What are periodic penalty payments?

Periodic penalty payments are an enforcement measure the ECB can use to get banks to meet requirements in supervisory decisions or regulations. If imposed, the bank must pay a penalty for every day that it fails to fulfil a requirement, for a period of up to six months.
