Annual report

The ECB publishes an annual report on how it carried out its supervisory tasks. The report is usually published in March of the subsequent year and is presented to the European Parliament by the Chair of the Supervisory Board at a public hearing.

Banks are overall well-capitalised with robust capital and liquidity positions. Banks’ aggregate Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio stood at 16.1% in the third quarter of 2025, compared with 15.7% one year earlier.

In the third quarter of 2025, banks’ aggregate annualised year-to-date return on equity stood at 9.9%, down from 10.2% one year earlier.

Supervisory decisions

The Supervisory Board took 2,549 supervisory decisions in 2025. Most were related to fit and proper assessments (48.8%), own funds (11.2%), internal models (8.1%), common procedures (7.7%), supervisory reporting (7.5%), national powers (6.8%) and the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process (4.0%).
